Looking at a 2005 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 V8 with 180,000 miles. They want $6,900.

Description says:

-all new brake lines
-new alternator
-new windshield
-oil change and rear diff service
-inspected in February

I would definitely take it to a mechanic first but just wanted to check here.

Is it a good deal? Should I offer less?

i have seen them advertised down here for $7,000 to $11,000

What do you think of the rust?

it doesnt look extreme to me from the photos, i would probably gamble on it

Alright thanks.

That's a decent price, but your right to be concerned about the rust. Some of it looks like surface rust, but a few areas look more questionable, but from the photos it's tuff to tell. So when you bring to the mechanic if he puts it on a lift, I'd have him check the frame to make sure it's solid and there's no crumbly sections.

Will do. Thanks.

I wouldn't offer too much on it

The amount of rust that's on it may not last as long. Even though it doesn't look as bad, I looks like it has quite all around the frame and the axis.

I would try to get it in to a professional mechanic and have him see what he can do about the rust

I would at least offer 5 grand or no more than $5,900

Yeah that's what I was thinking. The price actually got reduced to $5,900.

2005 is during the time Tacoma's and Tundra's had the frame rotting issues. It wouldn't surprise me that 4-Runner frames also fell victim to the same lack of rust proofing in those years. Even now, Toyota only coats the inside of their frames with some waxy waterproof substance that doesn't wear out, but still only paints the outer part of the frames.

Really have the frame checked out...if rot is present, walk away.
