My brother’s 2001 Camry just blew its motor and now he’s looking for a new car. What do you think of a 2005 Volvo V50 T5 AWD with a manual, 130,000 miles, and it just passed inspection. It also had its upper control arms recently done. The owner is asking 5k which I think is a bit high. It’s a private party not a dealer.
If it drives well, and everything has been check out (service history) and by a tech. Then you could go looking for things that are just unsatisfying. Most used cars you buy, the annoyances won't show up for a couple days or even weeks. Try to talk price down because it is as little high for my taste. Could be anything, too much curbrash, tires, rust spots. Though not the worst I've seen living in cali. Lol.
Geely didn't buy volvo until 2010 so you good there, but also also there were some electrical faults that were supposed to be patched up via updates and motor mounts seem to go out faster on these cars than others.
Idk if this is also the same generation as the one where power rear view mirror comes into play. If you do have a power rear view mirror, that stupid thing is tired directly to the srs and central waring system of the car. So annoying if it goes out which is also common.
Thank you for the response🙏
I think $5k is a bit high for that. Just remember Volvo parts are very expensive. We had a Volvo 2011 XC70 T6. One of the coil packs decided to catch fire, so to be proactive (since the other ones were same age) decided to replace the remaining coil packs, holy cow, I about fell over when I saw how much they'd be $96 each. That's just one example... They might be good cars but are cost prohibitive to keep maintained.
I'm pretty sure that (based on the S40) shared around 60% of its parts with the european Ford Focus. They were cheaper Volvos but if you get it cheap enough and in good mechanical shape it could be decent enough.
