Hi Scotty, I am from Europe, hope you are having a nice day ! Is it worth buying for everyday use, a (german made) 2005 3.2 V6 5-speed automatic VW Phaeton, one owner, 60000 miles, for $7000 !? The paint is starting to fade, but otherwise the car looks decent both from the outside and from the inside. I think the price is low because of the very high taxes in my country, for large engines, but if it is in good shape, what do you think ? Thanks

Be very careful with that car! The repair prices are absolutely insane, as are parts prices. A lot of people don't realize that and wind up not being able to afford to fix them when they go south. They share a lot of parts with Bentley if that tells you anything.

Seriously, some repairs can exceed the costs found on an S-Class Mercedes or BMW 7-Series.

Bearing in mind this video covers the W12 engined version of the phaeton, but it's still a good guide to how much money you'll end up pissing down the drain.

Only 60k miles? Everything OK? Mechanic says it's OK? I'm in. I would try to pay 5000€ or less. Yes, taxes there are big for big engines.

Yep, German built VW as a general rule of of thumb are pretty mechanically reliable, the ordinary joe type cars at least. These higher spec models are a disaster

Forgive me, … but a question, first: Are you some kind of poor dentist that is trying to "Keep Up Appearances" *pretending that nothing is wrong with your practice?

Look, … skip it, vanish your desire, … bad car, money pit. Get a cute puppy instead!
