2006 Dodge Magnum. Are my large rims hurting the car? Should I fix the car?

Are the large tires hurting my car and fuel efficiency? I bought a new Toyota. Should I fix my 2006 dodge magnum and keep it as a second car? The engine runs fine but the transmission never seemed right. It’s sluggish and slow shifting but mechanics said its good. Transmission lines are now leaking and it just started to slip out of gear completely. From my research I believe it’s a safety feature when the transmission is overheated. Usually happens when accelerating hard but once I slow down it will go back into gear.

I have a 2006 dodge magnum 110k bought 4 years ago with 78k. What do you think of this car? V6 3.5L AWD. If you were closer I’d ask if I could bring it to you. I like that car it just wasn’t efficient for Uber. Also it’s burning through fuel way faster than when I got it. Should I try to fix it? I want to keep it as a second car for snow driving and maybe family trips where extra luggage is needed. I also do other gig jobs that require the extra space.

Should I fix it and sell it or just sell it or fix it and keep it? It’s probably gonna cost me 1-2k to get it right and I’m willing to spend it because I really like the car. I think it’s the best looking station wagon you can buy. I like it better than a suv or crossover. I did have my mechanic look at it before buying it and he said it was solid.

Most of the issues besides the recent ones have been minor but nobody seems to be able to answer my questions reliably. Questions coming from a non-car guy.

Also I have 22 inch rims on there with no upgrades to anything. I don’t know if the rims are killing my car but I got them from my brother who passed for free.

The muffler rusted off so I had to replace it and shortly after my mechanic retired. The new one told me I needed a flex pipe. Also there is a worn bushing and I think a sway bar link needs replacing. I think that’s the part. they said they can’t do an alignment without it. The leaking transmission lines and fuel economy are way down. My yearly family trip from NH to Long Island NY I used to have 3/8 of a tank left now it’s almost gone. Is that because of the large tires or something else is going on?

I paid $3500 for the car and I’ve gotten 4 years out of it. That’s a win in my book. Besides replacing the muffler it’s had no major repairs. If I can put some money into it and get 4 more years I’ll be happy. It’s no longer my daily driver so I could get longer out of it.

The rims the car came with looked terrible. Made it look like a piece of crap and the new rims make the car look 100 times better. If the large rims are hurting my car and I do decide to keep it. What kind of upgrades could I do to make it so the car can handle the rims?

I’ve gotten my money’s worth out of the car. I know dodge sucks but given the current price of cars. Another if I fix the car and get another 30k miles out of it. That is cheaper than buying another car with who knows what wrong with it. Once I have enough money I want to replace it with a hybrid Toyota Highlander. Doesn’t change the fact that I have it now. With how fast cars loose value. $1000 per year for a car is a steal even if it is a dodge.

You need to separate these multiple questions into separate postings.  Thanks.

Do the larger rims hurt my fuel economy or is it something else? Flex pipe?

Could the large rims be the reason the sway bar link needs replacement? What could I do to upgrade the car? Shocks suspension struts? Idk

They make the car look really nice. Whoever had the car before me I think tried to paint the stock rims they really look terrible. Sorry I really wouldn’t know how to break it up. A lot of what I wrote isn’t a question. Just things I’ve noticed as someone who knows nothing. Stuff that maybe someone who does know might be able to give some insight. Seems the common theme is dodge sucks and get rid of it.

Huge rims are a waste. Ditch the Dodge. It's not worth the hassle.

Thanks I know I wouldn’t have spent the money but I got them for free. From my brother who is no longer with us. I’m going to ditch it after I use up how ever many miles are left in it.

Get out of Dodge.

Use factory spec wheels and tires.
