Hi, I am considering buying a 5-speed 2006 Ford Focus ST with 185k miles. The owner wants $2900 but I plan to talk him down due to the mileage. The car has no mechanical issues to the owner's knowledge. Are there any buyer tips or or things to watch out for with this particular model?
Put me in the "pass" column as well. Focus was never known as a quality model, and the ST cars had hard lives. I'm guessing you are only looking at it yourself to drive aggressively as otherwise you would go with a different trim with far less miles for the money. It likely won't handle much more abuse before needing a rebuild, which will cost more than what you are paying for the car.
‘To the owner’s knowledge’ - what does this even mean?!
No matter what the seller claims, always have a used car checked out thoroughly by a reputed mechanic, before you buy it.
To be honest, I’d pass on this. That’s too high mileage and the asking price is way too high. And if the car was beaten hard, the engine is probably worn out & not worth your time.
Don’t buy it without having it checked out by a mechanic!
