Hey, I'm looking to buy a used 2006 Jeep Commander. It was 155,000 miles on it, no warning lights coming on when I test drove it. The only thing that I saw was that maybe the transmission had delays but so did my old car and it's just something that the car had.

She's asking $5,000 for the car, do you think that it'd be wise to get it?

What is the engine on that vehicle? 3.7 V6, 4.7 V8 or 5.7 HEMI?

No, definitely do not buy. Especially the ones with the 3.7 V6, There’s a reason they’re not made anymore. They were a failure.

The only reason Jeep stopped the commander is because it resembled too much of the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee was doing fine but the Commander was on the same platform rather than on the Dodge Ram platform which would be a different story.

It's not the V6.

I remember the Commander. Have a mechanic look it over.

Well, I don't exactly want to pay for a mechanic to look it over. Any idea on what I should look for myself?

If you live in the north, rust. If there's too much rust underneath then pass. Ask for documentation: ask if he replaced any part on the vehicle. Consider the test drive you did: was it smooth while driving?
