Should I change my transmission fluid?

We just picked up this 2006 Matrix 1.8L ZZ1 automatic with 200000 miles

Was wondering if we should change the transmission fluid

I believe the transmission fluid has never been changed the transmission is running good it's nice and smooth the only thing I was in park put it into reverse it didn't click in so I just put it back into park and then back into reverse then it clicked in no problem , this occurred once in 300 miles

My concern is that the transmission is working great now, if I were to change the fluid I could be causing problems

with 200k? I would never have bought the car.

changing the fluid doesn't cause the problems. Lack of maintenance does. The problems (wear & tear) are already there and will manifest soon.

Sign up for the toyota website and enter your vehicles vin as your own. Hopefully it will show some transmission service records.

At the least, you could drop the pan, save the fluid and just change the filter. A full fluid exchange could be a fairly safe option as well, and save the old fluid just in case.
