I have a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer V8 Automatic with the 6R60 transmission and 190,000 miles on it. I drive about 60 miles a day in total and noticed that after the car warms up the torque converter seems to shudder (rumble strip feel) and sometimes when I press the gas to get out of OD it will make a slight squeak kind of noise. I've heard changing the transmission fluid can fix this, would a pan drop and filter change be alright given the vehicle's mileage. The fluid has never been changed (at least since 70K when we bought it) , but I'd rather change the fluid now than wait for something to break and need a new transmission. I know the risk of slipping, but even from my local transmission guy said it isn't a bad thing to do and he's been in business for years. Car is in great shape overall, no codes or anything out of the ordinary, just some peace of mind for my commute would be much appreciated.
You can do a drain and fill (never flush) and put it a quart of lucas atf additive in place of one atf quart
