Here we go again community, I have a good friend that bought himself a 2006 Saturn Vue with 180,000 miles and is trying to register it. He took it to a star station locally and they failed it bc of a oil leak and a missing 3rd Catalytic Converter. I can't seem to find anything about this elusive 3rd cat. Can I get a lil assistance here. BTW he's a big supporter of scottys youtube channel! Appreciates the sense of humor.
Which engine?
3.5l v6 AWD
Find a new inspection station. There is no 3rd cat on a 2006 Vue with the V6. Only two.
Did you ask them, where they think it’s supposed to be?

For a V-config engine you will usually have one cat per bank so 2 total. It doesn’t make sense. Did you ask the inspector to show you where it was missing? He must have misidentified that location for a 3rd cat. Can you look underneath the vehicle and see what is really missing?
Exactly!
I'm guessing it is probably a resonator, but you'd have to really not know what you are looking at to confuse the two mounting locations. Doesn't make much sense.
That’s my thought too - a resonator. I can see how someone (non car person) can get that confused but an inspector who looks at cars for a living?!
There's a Saturn fan site, with a forum and classified: http://www.saturnfans.com
Might be the right resource for your question.
