2006 Toyota Matrix with lower fuel economy

Hi everyone,

My 2006 Toyota matrix XR fwd with 130 km is driving me a little nutty. I bought it used and I noticed the fuel economy isn't what it supposed to be. I have already gotten a set of new spark plugs, air filter, properly inflated the tires, and cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body. I am still getting only 21 mpg or less in the city. I scanned my car with the thinkcar app and I noticed

1) Short term and long term fuel trim are adding  - 3.125 and 6.25 respectively

2) Absolute throttle position is higher than the normal threshold

3)Air flow rate sometimes dip below normal threshold for a second during idle

It seems like it runs a little too lean from what i see. What do you guy think the cause would be ? I also wonder what is the next best course of action to take?

A) hire a mechanic to clean the fuel injector (I tried a bottle of red line already)

B) replace MAF sensor

C) hire a mechanic to find vacuum leak (I don't see it myself)

these option seems like all $100 plus CAD each and i would rather not waste extra hundreds of dollars. By the way, no code whatsoever

You can ask a mechanic to pressure clean the injectors. But before doing it, could you answer these questions:

Do you live in a cold place?

What’s your highway mpg?

I live in Vancouver, Canada. Essentially the warmest part of canada. like seattle i supposed. Highway MPG is around 28ish

Well, start with changing the MAF sensor and pressure cleaning the injectors.

I supposed i can order the sensorfrom amazon and give it try

Just make sure you buy an OEM for that.
