I have a 2006 Toyota Sienna 218k miles, I went in for regular maintenance and had my trans filter changed out. The shop said they used Valvoline atf all vehicle synthetic. After the change I drove 100 miles up the mountains and going uphill I struggled to get power and speed. I didn't drive it anywhere else. Afterwards, I drove home and cannot accelerate over 40 uphill. This is not the same vehicle I had before the filter change. I specifically requested no evac of fluids and I asked for the old filter when I changed it as well out if curiosity. I have parked the car at the service shop for checking it out but not ever sure where to start. The shop is not a full service repair shop and they are inadequate to handle transmission diagnosis or repairs.
I'm just not sure what to do or what I need to ask for or expect. I cannot afford a new tranny and my van worked great before. Am I responsible for this? Is this normal?
Can damage and problems happen this fast?
Also, history...
In January 2022 Valvoline oil change shop accidentally drained my transmission when performing an oil change instead of draining my oil. Could this have cause the damage that I'm just now experiencing?
What can I do?
It also make a click ticking noise when you take it out of park. What could the issue and repair needs? Cost? Who is responsible?
I have regular service records and have done everything on schedule.
You have to use only Toyota fluid. The shop screwed up your car. If the shop is not adequate to handle transmission diagnosis, why did you take it to them to begin with? You now need a transmission specialty shop (not a chain store) to diagnose your problem. Get your money back.
