2007 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 Oil Consumption issue

Hello everyone, I currently have a 07 Tacoma that I bought used for about 4 grand with 275,000 miles about 7 months ago, it now has 282,626. Just today I was checking the fluids after a trip and was startled to see that the dipstick read absolutely no oil, bone dry. Checked underneath and everything is dry as can be, no leaks. Added about 4 qts and it read to the full line now. I did the oil change about 4,500 miles ago, which means its burning around a quart of oil every 1k miles, Im surprised the engine didn't blow up on me. It also looks like the engine was pretty neglected when I replaced the valve cover gaskets on it. Could I try swapping the PCV valve and see what happens?

It is a good idea. You can also do the wet and dry compression tests on the cylinders.

It sounds like it's a little late for a PCV valve.  It's probably bad valve stem seals and rings.
