I have a 2007 Camry Hybrid with 268,000 miles on it. I’ve always used full synthetic oil and I always change the oil at 5,000 miles. A few days ago, I got a really loud knock that shook the car immediately at startup in fairly cold weather and after the car had sat for three days. The “knocking” stopped after about three seconds and it ran fine after that. It hasn’t made the noise since. Here’s a link to a video of it from my driveway that morning. I removed the timing chain tensioner, thinking it might be chain slap, but the tensioner seems fine. Any ideas what might be wrong?
The timing chain system needs to be replaced as a kit. It includes the chains, tensioner, sprockets and guides. Just replacing the tensioner doesn't get it.
Do you think I’m on the right track with the timing chain being the issue?
Yes.
