Okay so a month ago my Camry started acting slightly odd but everything seemed okay so I kinda made a mental note of it and let the young lady drive it back and forth to college. Over time, she made complaints of it wanting to die at stops. So I would take it for a day and it wouldn't act up for me, further infuriating the one that drives it the most. lol
However, fast forward to now where the engine now sounds just... wrong.. when you start it the first time in a day when it's cold. I don't know how to explain it, just that it doesn't sound right. I have a video posted below where you can hear this. Anyways, the oil is full, everything checks out. The air filter is clean, no Engine codes are thrown. It still drives mostly normal, you just notice things after it warms up and you come to a stop. Now, as of today, a new sound has shown up from the engine when it is warmed up and idling. We haven't been driving it for a while because of the issues, but today I started it up to look at it, and eventually, when it got warm enough it started making an even worse noise.
I have taken it to three mechanics, who can't really tell me what is wrong other than "you need a new engine". No explanation on why other than "something seems broken". Thanks, guys.
So I made a youtube video of what it's doing and posted it... and I'm going to share it on here in hopes someone else Camry has done this. Yes, it's the infamous 2AZ-FE engine, but honestly other than eating a bit of oil until now hasn't been an issue and we never let the oil get low.
So here is the video. Any insight is appreciated! Thank you!!
Hard to be sure but it sounds a lot like your timing chain is loose.
Really nice video, by the way
Thank you. I am training myself on Davinci Resolve and keep trying new things lol
At any rate, thank you for your answer!
