Scotty, I recently bought a 2007 Toyota Matrix 127000 miles. It will crank for 5 seconds sometimes. Sometimes it starts right up. Took it to the mechanic paid him 70 dollars for him to tell me it was normal but one time it didn’t start because the starter didn’t get enough power. Battery was checked twice along with throttle body, maf, air filter, fuel pressure,spark plugs and fuses. Car runs good when it is running. Ever since then it has still started hard ever 1in 5 times I start it.

If the starter is not getting enough power, then replace the starter.
