[Solved] 2008 Corolla with grinding manual transmission

I bought a 2008 corolla during the pandemic to commute back and forth to work. It needed a new clutch which I replaced. About a month after purchase the transmission started grinding when shifting into third during higher RPMs. Roughly anything over 3,000. Double clutching alleviates most of the problem, sometimes I just skip into fourth from second. The car has 140k miles and besides the transmission issues is very clean. So it seems the previous owner just really slammed the gearbox, I don't know if he was powershifting or what. It is a city car so the miles are probably heavy on wear and tear. Any advice? How long can I continue driving without pouring the money in to replace the synchromesh?

Well if your baby had a car like that once that ground in second gear like mad and I drove it 4 years that way and sold it still grinding but still running

Might try to bleed the clutch. Sometimes if the clutch doesn't have enough throw it will cause the transmission to stay engaged while the clutch is depressed. Otherwise just drive it until you can't get into 3rd at all and either rebuild the trans or buy one from a dealer or remanufacturer.

I have used the Lucas oil stabilizer in a manual transmission that had a failing syncro. It helped smooth shifting in that gear somewhat.
