Hi, I'm looking at a 2009 Honda Accord ELX Automatic 4 cylinder- checked it out, looks great, milage 85,000, transmission looks a little wet with fluid on the bottom. Saw some safety recalls for exploding airbags, which concerned me, but passenger side airbag was replaced. Overall, would this be a good buy, need a dependable car with a low cost of maintenance! Thank you!
-test drove a Toyota Camry and it was a bit sluggish, but is this the only other option
- What's your price range?, And what do they want for the Honda?
I've said it quite a few times here on different posts, but I recommend a honda fit, 5 spd, the only down side to them, is they're also a little slow, they have a lot of cargo room, they're affordable, and they're reliable
they are asking 7800, I offered 7250, they were receptive and I told them I would contact them soon with a decision after the test drive
my price max is 9000$
only problem with a smaller car is lack of space
Can you drive a standard? They usually last longer than an automatic, the Honda sounds good, could just need a tranny pan gasket,
That seems kind of high, but that could just be the differance in the areas we live in
have not in a long time, but I will also be sharing the car with family who do not know how drive a manual lol
I like in suburbs of Chicago, do not know how that would influence price?
Oh ok, then a standard probably isn't a good idea, unless I wanna teach them. Lol. People just ask more in one area than another sometimes
Would a 2013 or newer Toyota Camry be a better option? just higher miles
Yeah, maybe. I like honda more, but toyotas are one of the most reliable. my neighbor has an 05 camry with like 260k on it
Runs like new
The fact that the transmission is a little wet concerns me, but also 2008 (the first model year of that generation) had the most issues (for that generation) with excessive oil consumption (2.4L I4), poor brakes, and uncomfortable seats (subjective).
See below:

would I be better off waiting and saving money for newer model year?
For that generation, I would go newer as there were fewer issues.
Would you consider a 2013 or newer Camry a better option? ( just higher miles)
Oh yes definitely. Just be aware 2012-2014 Camry had transmission issues that a TSB supposedly addressed. See bulletin on this Forum and Scotty also talked about in his video today 1/22/21.
My mistake it is a 2009 Honda Accord! Would I still expect to see such problems (some oil consumption, a weaker automatic transmission)?
