2008 Honda Civic Cracked engine

I have a 2008 Honda civic automatic with R18 with 218k kms on it and recently I noticed there was a bit of coolant leaking and the engine was running hot so I took it to the Honda dealership where my uncle is lead mechanic. He’s told me that there’s a crack in the engine block and it’s most likely been caused by the insane weather recently (I live in Edmonton Alberta Canada and we saw -55°C this January). Do you have any “Jerry rig” solutions which we could use to fix the crack in case we are not able to weld it back together? Thanks Scotty

I would say exactly where on the block is critical to whether or not JB Weld will work. I patched a vacuum leak on the block of my 1979 Pontiac with high-temp JB Weld. i had a vacuum leak caused by a faulty EGR valve. It sealed the leak. I used it on cast iron, not aluminum, though. If there's combustion occurring on the other side of the JB Weld, it's highly unlikely to be effective over the long term.

Some say that JB Weld can be used to temporarily seal a cracked block though I don't personally know anyone who has tried it. If welding doesn't work though, and I'd think the odds are against it with an aluminum engine block, you really should be looking for another car.
