Hey Scotty, looking to purchase my first car, ill be moving half way across country in the next couple of monthes so looking for something reliable with a reasonable price, in the $5000 range. I found 2009 rav4 4 cylinder with 120,000 for $7,500, its a bit out of range but seems to check all of my boxes. I saw you mention some of these models burning oil, upon more research i found that it was years 2006-2008. Is that true? Should i be worried about this 09? What are some things to look for that would indicate oil burner? And what are some other years and models i should consider?
@mike-tavares
7500 is expensive but they are decent. My friend has an 06 with 70k miles but it burns a lot of oil. It's the 2az-fe 4 cylinder. If you get it, change the oil regurarly and bring it to a mechanic and I would pay no more than 6k.
For only few months you can also take a look on anything. For example, Ford Explorer or Nissan Frontier are decent picks but cheaper. Toyotas go for more and are useful if you want them for some hundred thousand miles.
Good luck.
