engine loses oil

Scotty I need some mechanics help here. I have a 2006 charger Daytona with the 5.7hemi, it burns about 2qrts of oil every 400miles and is creating so much internal pressure that it’s causing oil seals to leak and is pushing oil into the engine air filter housing?! Not sure what’s going on. I had a local mechanic do a wet and dry compression test on the engine and they said it past both test with flying colors… but what could be causing these problems? Thank you for your time

PCV valve?  Easy job and should probably be done anyway it it hasn’t been done in a while.

I replaced the pcv valve three different times and still no change. I also replaced the entire manifold thinking that might make a change but still no results. Engine has 168k miles on it. I also noticed when it just idles with the ac on the engine tends to surge real bad rpm’s go up and down and seems like it tries to die when turning the steering wheel left or right moving maybe 5mph. Do you think the engine is just flat worn out?

Now it makes me think piston rings, except that you already did a compression test. You might search around the various Hemi forums (Dodge, Ram, Jeep) and see what you find. But be careful because you are getting close to throwing good money after bad

@Dad2LM2 that’s what I thought from the start because I’m like there’s no way the rings aren’t destroyed if it’s burning through so much oil then they tell me the rings are good but then I remember from Scotty’s videos about there being oil control rings or something of that nature that are under the actual compression rings and if they get gunked up then that can lead to oil burning so I was thinking maybe try that 505 CRO I see him use in videos that show great results and see if that makes a difference?

Either that or there's another problem with the PCV system (maybe clogged up somewhere) permitting excess crankcase pressure to build up.

@chucktobias do you think I should try some that 505 CRO Scotty used and see if the engine is just really carboned up? I did read that a clogged engine can cause the excess pressure in the crankcase. I have done a couple flushes with the Autozone offered products but I don’t think those work very well

That might help if you're getting excessive blowby due to low-tension piston rings stuck because of carbon buildup. Seems like a long shot to me but probably worth trying.

I guess I’m gonna try that and keep you posted! Hopefully it fixes my problem might by 2 sets and do a double flush since it’s cheaper then buying an engine

Haynes manual also suggests plugged PCV hose as a possible cause

I did replace the entire manifold which came with new hoses on it so gladly can mark that off the list
