2008 Huskqvarna Burning Oil

Not exactly a car issue….. but I have a 2008 Huskqvarna lawn mower with 732 hours on it. It burns quite a bit of oil unfortunately. I have to add around 1/3 of a quart of oil after each time I mow (I mow for about an hour).

I have heard of people switching to a heavier weight of oil to help with the oil burning. I know Scotty doesn’t like to do this, but would this actually help out or should I keep adding the current oil? It takes SAE 30 oil. Thank you in advance for your help!

Sounds like a good opportunity to learn how to rebuild a small engine if you're so inclined.

I might consider doing this. I’ve never done this before, but I’m sure there are YouTube video of it. Thank you for your input!

You might try 20W-50. They use that in old cars that burn oil. My new weed eater is a 4-cycle and it runs on 20W-50 from the factory, but the owner's manual says 10W-30 and 40 are also acceptable. Check the owner's manual for your mower if you still have it. It shouldn't hurt anything. It's a basic flathead engine.

I still have the owners manual. I will be sure to check on that and see. Thank you for your input!

You could add some Lucas oil stabilizer, it's very thick and takes the place of heavy weight (20w50) oil.  Unfortunately, your piston rings are shot.

Ok I will look into that. Thank you for your input!
