My wife's 2009 toyota corolla le 1.8 had a craked timing cover and water pump. So while the mechanic was in there changing them out i had him change out both chain's and everything else related to the timing. car has 229000 miles on it. After everything was done and new timing cover and water pump. It run fine for a while about a month? Then when pulling up to a stop sign or putting the car in neutral or park it would rev up sometimes not all the time.  you could tap the gas and it would go back to ideling just fine. Took it back the code's were p0015 p0016 p0017 It did not do this all the time either by the way!

So he replaced both camshaft sensor's and crankshaft sensor. was working great again for a while now yesterday it reved up just one time and check engine light came back on. so i used my blue driver and now it is giving me p0017 Code.

could this be a bad crankshaft sensor? or one of the camshaft sensor's?? really have no clue to what the problem really is?? I would appreciate your help in this matter scotty! 🙂

Don't have the money to keep taking it back to the mechanic every other week. Thanks again everyone

Unfortunately it sounds like your mechanic is a part changer. Part chargers will wring your wallet dry to fix a problem. You need a mechanic who knows what they're doing. This problem requires high end tools and the know-how to use them.

@imperator @brianc-3920 It makes me wonder if the mechanic did the crank/cam relearn procedure listed in charm.il service info. "a) In order to clear the ECM's learned values for valve timing, disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal for 1 minute. (b) Reconnect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal."

@imperator Thank you much appreciated tpta;;y agree with you

Were Toyota OEM parts installed? When dealing with critical engine parts, aftermarket replacements frequently do not work properly.

@chucktobias Good morning thank you for the video no they were not oem need to findthem and see how much and when i can get them? I know the car is running great as usuall lol thanks again i really appreciate it and you as well my friend! 🙂

Still, you don't want to just throw parts at the problem. Try to find a mechanic who will do some actual diagnosis to figure out what's going on first. There are discount Toyota parts sources online you can find with a search that charge less than going to the dealer. Avoid Amazon and Ebay since those sources are lousy with counterfeit Chinese parts.

@chucktobias Good morning Thank you For the information. What would be the best source for those parts online? Looking for a good mechanic as we speak actually

Since I've never owned a Toyota I don't know from personal experience what the best source of parts would be. You could look at what prices you can get ordering directly from Toyota:

https://autoparts.toyota.com/

You could also look for comments about Toyota parts sellers on Toyota forums such as:

@chucktobias Thank's Really Appreciate it 🙂

Even The Toyota Dealer was scratching his head on this one.

that's not the least bit surprising. Dealers are part changers (like they did with you) and often have no idea how to diagnose. Stay away!

Everything that corralates to that code has been fixed

Obviously not everything.

There are a number of steps to take, and data to be measured and recorded per the Toyota manual I posted above. Until those are followed you won't have a proper diagnosis. You need to find a mechanic who actually knows what they're doing.

@imperator thanks

Scotty I desperatly need your help Sir! 🙂

I have a wierd code even Toyota Dealer Can Not Figure Out And Fix. It is p0017 My Wife's 2009 Toyota Corolla le 1.8 automatic

Code is p017 Crankshaft Position Correlation Bank 1 sensor B

Since this started have had a lot of help here from the forum! I really appreciate it a lot! 🙂

In a last ditch effort after the toyutoa dealer i put in all new matching crank and camshaft sensor's and the connector on said Problem sensor. Still the code come back.

The toyota dealer said everything looked good just the code he erased it but it come back as usual. The car runs drives fine gets great gas mileage. Ideling normally just that code and check engine light. Plus next month it is due for a sticker to boot lol. Can anyone chime in on this? What should i look for in the live data to try and trace down the issue. Everything that corralates to that code has been fixed and or changed and still light is there.

All this started after a month after the water pump and timing chain's  were replaced along with the valve cover gasket and he changed the oil as well.

Even The Toyota Dealer was scratching his head on this one.

Scotty can your wisdom tell you what this problem is??

I really appreciate it sir!

Brian
