Hello.
I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla automatic. When parked, the idle is not stable and the engine sometimes shuts off, but it is fine when in N, D or R. No check engine or code. I took the car to Canadian tires, they changed the crank angle sensor but it did not solve the problem.
Please help.
Kinda a rule of thumb but don't take your engine/trans/emission problems to a tire shop... Not saying they are not any good knowledgeable techs there or in other tire shops (got a buddy who's a 15 year VW specialist mechanic who works at big O now just cause he wants to relax nowadays) but it's kinda a thing. Like taking your car for a engine swap at a jiffylube. Kinda not something you want to do without a second opinion. Reason for this one is that they went for the most complicated thing first. Crank angle position sensor would throw a code if gone bad. Not a chance it doesn't. I would go to a different shop to find out what is actually wrong. I would start simple like air related things, since it only cuts off when in park like vacuum leak or MAF or EGR. If not that most likely source I would check spark and then fuel.
You probably need a dealer-level scan tool to track down the problem. It's unlikely that a tire shop would have one.
