2010 Honda Accord V6

In the 7yrs I've had my Honda (now over 120,000 miles on it) there's been a problem with cylinder 2. One mechanic about 3 years ago fixed it and it was good for 2 years. I've paid several mechanics to NOT fix it. After a mechanic friend recently changed the coils and spark plugs with no change he used a scope tool and found this:

He feels selling it and buying another car may be best, what do you say?

Obviously you have a burned exhaust valve. Unless you can do the work yourself the cost of repair will likely equal or exceed value of the car so I'd say it's time to look for a replacement.

must have been running pretty lean. Or was the engine modified?

Thanks Chuck. I'm weighing the cost but love my car. Is there a different engine that will work in a 2010 Honda Accord EX-L V6?

While with enough money and custom fabrication it's possible to do almost anything, that's not really feasible with modern cars to do that for an ordinary driver. It's not like the 1960s when it was straightforward to mix and match what you wanted as long as you could get things to physically bolt up together.

A low-miles JDM engine or junkyard engine from a rear-end wreck might be a possibility, though any kind of used engine is always a crap shoot.  If you're not doing the engine swap yourself you'd be on the hook for the labor of installing the used engine if it turns out to be bad unless the shop is guaranteeing the entire job, engine included.

You could also look at the price of a remanufactured engine from a company like Jasper to see if it's feasible.

You have to wonder though what caused that exhaust valve to burn. It's not a common problem. The root cause may remain if it was external to the engine itself.
