Hello!
What your thoughts about 2010 Prius with 95k miles. Guy wants $8500. Are there any major problems with this year? Also wondering how long the battery pack is expected to last. Decent deal ?
thanks
12 years old and $8500? Replacing the battery pack cost $1500 in today's money. Offer $4500 and keep $1500 in the bank for a new battery pack. And that's not even counting the ICE maintenance and repairs.
He won’t go lower than 8k
Walk away.
At 12 years old the original battery would likely be on its last legs, so figure battery replacement into the price.
Assuming it checks out, and comps for the vehicle are within the price range or less.
IIRC, the hybrid battery is warrantied for 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first.
From watching Prius forums and personal experience, the battery usually needs replacing closer to 200,000-225,000 miles or 12-15 years. Could be more, could be less.
Mine went 17 years and 275,000 miles.
The biggest out of the ordinary issue for early models of that generation is the head gasket. It’s not widespread like Subaru in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, but enough to be noted.
I would pass, especially at that mileage and if you plan to put lots of mileage on it moving forward.
Bad deal.
I wouldn't do it. Take Scottys advice and avoid older hybrids. I bought a 14 year old Prius a few years ago, went through some serious headaches with it and am now dealing with a hybrid battery on it last legs. Wouldn't do it again given the chance
