Did GM ever fix the collapsed lifter problem?

I have a 2010 Silverado 5.3 with DOD. Original owner 90,000 miles, maintenance schedule followed and synthetic oil changes for the last 6 years.

I’ve had no problems but should I be concerned and consider disabling it?

Thanks

Yes.  Disable it now before it collapses.  Of course, doing a full AFM delete is best (replacing all the AFM lifters with solid lifters and possibly replacing the cam if damaged), but you can start by using a tuner to disable AFM for now -- should prevent the lifters from collapsing.

If you do the AFM delete now (either a tune or full lifter replacement) you can save yourself the headaches of doing a lifter + cam job later because when the lifters collapse and you drive on it, you run the risk of wiping a lobe and destroying the CAM.  Be advised that a proper AFM delete will take about 23 hours of labor (according to the book) and probably about $1000 in parts.  I'd say if you can't spend that money, start with the tuner first and turn off AFM.  There are tons of videos on youtube on how to do this and what tools to use.  (Again, this won't "solve" the problem but it can buy you some time--and depending on how long you keep the truck, you may not need to do a lifter replacement if you do the tune).

Mine on my 2013 (with 160k) unfortunately collapsed and now i have to have the lifter replaced.  Of course, I'm doing a tune and only replacing the bad lifter(s) on the on side (not a full job).  Either way, it's going to cost me about $600 in parts and about 13 hours of labor.

Thank you sirhawkeye.

I’ve been somewhat paranoid about it collapsing.   so for the last year I’ve been driving in manual mode 5th gear. It won’t go into 4 cylinder mode however I going to be doing more highway driving so I better find a more permanent fix.
thanks again.
