I have a 2011 Toyota Camry with 75k that we just bought as a 3rd vehicle. On a cold start, there is a loud rattle that lasts a second or two. I've read that it is a known problem with the VVT cam actuator caused by a lack of oil on start-up. If so, will this damage my engine over the long-haul and is there a fix???
2.5L engine
Of course noise it's bare metal rattling around but those can do that sometimes for years before the engine has to be rebuilt I just hope you didn't pay too much for the car because if you've owned a car like that for years and it does it you can live with it but eventually it will break and that cost a fortune to rebuild those variable valve timing systems
Thanks Scotty. If it is the VVT cam actuator, is there anything I could do now to prevent having to rebuild it later?... This is my first ever Camry and it has so few miles. I'd hate to think I got a bad one after hearing so many great thing about Toyota on your channel!
