Hello Scott!
I have been watching your channel for about three years now. I have enjoyed them and have learned a lot from them. I think that your chanel is very informative and honest.
I have a 2011 Toyota Rav AWD. It has about 205k miles in it. My dad passed it on to me when it was at about 180K miles. However in the last year or so, the oil level on the dipstick drops below the halfway line and almost at the mimimum level every week (approx. 250 miles per week). Because of this, I have had to put in at least 1qt of oil every week or every 250 miles.
I learned that this 3rd generation Rav4's are notorious for gasket problems. Do you think it is a good idea to invest in getting the gaskets replaced to cure the loss of oil weekly? and how much longer do you think my car will last before I would definitely have to purchase another car?
Thank you for all you do.
God bless you and your family,
Aaron
which gaskets are you referring to?
oil burning is a sign of worn piston rings and there isn't much you can do about it. You can try using an oil system cleaning treatment. It might make it a little bit better. And try replacing the PCV valve to reduce blow-by.
Thank you for answering my primary question. And you're correct, i meant to say piston rings. Do you have a recommended Oil System cleaning treatment brand? Do you think it would still be worth replacing the piston rings?
No, you can't just replace piston rings. You have to overhaul the engine which probably costs more than a replacement engine, and possibly more than the car is worth. But you can go ahead and inquire. Let us know what you find out.

Thank you. How much more do you think my car would last at this point? considering that I went ahead and tried an oil system cleaning treatment and regular maintenance (oil change). But no engine overhaul?
