2012 Corolla-Coolant Level

Hi all,

I have a 2012 corolla that I just got and noticed the coolant is somewhat low. The coolant is slightly above the “L” mark. I was wondering if this is normal as there are no leaks and I don’t think it’s been changed before? It has 110k miles. Does coolant drop low just over time?

Never changed? Recommended toyota model suggests changing the coolant every 30-40k miles. I would suggest to get it changed, whenever you next have the chance. That being said, if it has never been touched before and it only evaporated that much with no leaks whatsoever, then yes that is normal. I would say that after the milage you have on it, it should have been lower from slow evap.

Got it. Is there a difference between a change and a flush?

Same difference in this case

Ok, I noticed when I was driving my coolant light was on. It was just plain white, not flashing orange at all. Is it normal for this to stay on? Not sure if it’s just that it just a little low.

usually there's two marks. A cold and a hot.

Coolant should be changed after 100k miles or 7 years (Whichever comes first). If it is not overheating, check the coolant color (IT should be pink), if it is dirty, flush it, otherwise just change it with any HOAT coolant (you do not need to buy Toyota coolant).
