Should I buy this Lexus

$12,000

I have the ability to buy a 2012 Lexus 450h with 130k miles from someone I know. But, the Lexus records (not carfax)  have services at Lexus done every 5k miles without exception. And the hybrid battery was replaced by Lexus about 5k miles ago. Their family member that drove it can’t drive anymore.

with that background, is it likely I could still get many more miles out of it?  I see these going high mileage even without a new battery. But trust your insights.

we have a 2010 gas rx my wife drives that has really been a great car. But I like the idea of gas mileage on the hybrid for commuting instead of my truck.

thank you

compare the price to similar models in car listings to see if it's fair. Try to negotiate the price down (it is a 10 year old car).

Make sure to have it inspected by a professional who is familiar with hybrids.

It is pretty likely but you may have to replace the battery at some point

Just keep in mind that being it is a hybrid it's not going to be quiet as reliable and parts are going to be more expensive

As the battery has been done, that is a big plus. I would check to see if the cvt fluid has been changed. It is a good one, but it would make me feel a lot better if it had.

The downside to that hybrid, there are not a lot of them on the market, compared to something like a prius. Parts are not as abundant in aftermarket I would guess.

You said you wanted it for commuting, is it all city driving? If so, you will gain a good amount of mpg, from 18 to 32 from a RX350. If however, if it is mixed, or highway, the benefits go away fast. A RX 350 gets 25 highway, a 450h gets 28.

If you do the math, you will save a whopping $1500 over 100k miles by getting a hybrid and driving it on the highway, vs a normal rx350. If you even got the best gas mileage on the hybrid at 32, and the worst city mileage on the 350, you would save about $8500 over 100k miles.

You would be far better off buying a prius, you would see some real savings going hybrid then. I know my 2013 actually rode pretty good, but not Lexus RX good.

Just some things to think about.
