Hi Scotty I let my timing chain break and it broke my engine also. My fault for not getting it checked out sooner. The mechanic that was the most reasonable said it would be 4,500 for an engine and 1500 for labor for a total of 6000. I still owe $4,500 on the car I paid 8000 for it originally. It had 115000 MI Miles when I bought it. It now has now has a hundred and thirty-five thousand miles. Should I sell the car for scrap or should I try to repair it. Thank you for your time

Check the cost of replacement - how much will it cost to get a car you’re willing to use, and what it’ll probably cost to run over the time you’re willing to keep it.

and then compare that to what it’d realistically cost to swap in a new engine, and what it’ll probably cost to run over the time you’re willing to keep it (factor in the risk of that engine being bad)

this may not always be accurate but it’s something that you should consider…

IMO, $6k for an engine replacement sounds high to me… I’m not sure how much it actually costs in your area.

Do not put money into that car. At this age and mileage, you should constantly spend money to keep it running.
