Thanks for your time! My wife and I own a 2008 BMW 328i Convertible E93 with an automatic and only 36K miles. We keep it in the garage and only use it for vacations and weekly rides to dinner etc. Due to it's age, this year I went ahead and started replacing fluids in the brakes and power steering systems. Now I am looking at the engine coolant. Seems like everything to do with a BMW is special. Anything I should know about buying new coolant to be used in this N52 engine? Does the antifreeze color matter? Are all major anti-freeze products these days safe for aluminum engines? Any considerations I am missing? After that I have to research the convertible hydraulic pump fluid.
- I had an X5 with the N52.
When I was in doubt I just used the OEM BMW.
Each manufacturer has a specific formulation. Honda uses a blue one. Toyota uses pink/red. BMW also uses a different blue coolant.
The OEM BMW is a bit more money, but since it isn’t changed as often, I think it is well worth it to go OEM. It takes the guesswork out.
There are othr coolant makers that will sell a compatible one if you feel like comparing and contrasting price and ingredients, but I just went with OEM.
