I am original owner with consistent dealer oil changes when oil life is between 5-10% - my mechanic skills are near zero AND knowledge based on what I see on Scotty!
First, replaced all brakes and rotors at 52500 miles due to scrunchy sounding squeak in front right wheel replaced them again 1000 miles later for same thing. Now a total of 2000 miles later have had same sound from same wheel for @ 400 miles. Afraid to take it to same repair shop again and have same results. What MIGHT the real issue be and what should I do?
second, after oil change I noticed very slight "residue" on engine beauty cover so I did the wipe and sniff test and smelled gas. Is there a simple place it may be coming from or could it be from multiple places?
I can answer the first question! Sometimes when a mechanic at a shop is working quickly they forget to grease the slide pins of the caliper. That would be the first place I would look if the brakes were performing poorly at that mileage. The slide pins can be removed once you take the caliper off -ths caliper bolts right to them and they just sit in the pad carrier so that the caliper can move freely. Check that out first. When the brakes were done were any of the brake lines removed? They typically dont have to be removed to do brakes but if they were you might have air in the brake line.
thank you for your quick reply. i will have the slide pins checked and lubed. I do not know if the brake lines were removed. I have to believe the mechanic did know to bleed the brake lines as he has a solid reputation. My greatest concern was this has become a repeat issue.
again, thank you and stay safe!
