I have a 2013 Ford escape SE (186kmiles) (1.6L ecoboost engine). While driving in highway, car suddenly just slowed down, couldn't go above 35mph. No check engine or anything. Pulled over, then car starts but doesn't go anywhere. Press the gas while in park, RPM revs up to 2-3k rpm but stutters, comes back down, almost stalls. sometimes stalls. towed it home.
I plugged up OBD scan and saw a code (not sure how old it was)... Engine coolant Temp out of range. I replaced this sensor. No change. Cleared codes. Had a mechanic do a 1hr inspection, he thought it was the turbo sensor. Replaced that... no change. not throwing ANY codes.
Car starts, while in park push gas and stutters and sputters up and down to 2-3k rpm maybe, sometimes almost stalls. If i press gas very slowly ... it can sometimes make it all the way to 6k rpm. In drive, gas doesn't do much, car can barely go it just sputters, maybe drives 2mph.
Not sure what else could be issue for me to try to fix, for hopefully "cheap". Don't want to spend too much ca$h on this old car. Could it be the wiring harness on the turbo sensor circuit? Anything I can watch for on live OBD scan tool while car is idling/running?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
Well I would say start with a much better mechanic. Anything from a clogged catalytic converter to a clogged fuel filter to a weak fuel pump can do that and any mechanic that stuff rather quickly if he knows the stuff. Obviously the guy here dealing with doesn't know much
Funny, one of his first instincts was a clogged catalytic converter. But as he continued , he landed on that sensor. As we were monitoring with my scan tool, the boost pressure. it was showing significant boost pressure even at idle. ALthough it's still showing similar pressure after sensor replaced. wonder if maybe wiring harness issue?
The 2013 was included as part of a recall Ford made due to issues with the electronic throttle body.
