2013 Subaru outback oil change question?

Hello Scotty,

I have a question about my Subaru Outback 2013. I change the oil every 5,000 miles and use a Fram Synthetic Oil filter. Would it be overkill to change the filter every 2,500 miles and the oil and filter every 5,000 miles? I want the motor to last.

(Yes I know then I should have never purchased a Subaru if I wanted it to last)

The extra filter change to me is overkill and 5k miles on synthetic oil is great. What you may want to consider more is the trani maintenance with regular fluid changes but not flushing it.

I would keep with your current routine (would change brand of filter tho).  With that said, I see you are curious and serious about making it last, on next oil change, take some of the old oil and send it to a lab for analysis.  This will give you data backed info that helps determine your engine condition.  And you can do it periodically to see how your engine changes over time.

What brand filter would you use?

@n3naa
Currently I use/prefer the WIX Premium. There are others just as good but availability and cost puts this one on top for me at this time (my opinion changes when manufactures change specs and how same part number filter is changed/designed).

Do you guys see anything wrong with using the oil filter the dealer sells (Subaru branded) ?
