Greetings Scotty/Community,
I recently bought a 2013 Toyota Camry with just 52,000 miles from the original owner. As I couldn't be sure about the actual state of the car I brought it to the dealership, my plan was to receive a complete service and a quick diagnostic from the "experts" and then never step on the place ever again. They saw some moisture between the engine and transmission that should be inspected in detail. Worried that this could be a transmission fluid leak and specially worried about a low fluid level I made a first change at home, 2 quarts came out from the pan which seemed correct based on some DIY videos but I also notice the fluid was quite brownish for the millage.
I decided to take the car to the dealership again for a transmission fluid change service, this way I could at least be sure the level was the correct and perform a reverse engineering at home to check how much fluid should come out from the transmission and make a constant check on the level. Luckily they told me the leak was coming from the engine seal to the transmission (my personal mechanic will take care of that soon), unfortunately they refused to change the fluid because of how dirty it was, I guess they are trying to protect themselves. The dealer suggested to look for a good mechanic outside and do some transmission fluid changes of 2 quarts each, test the car shifts between each change and stop when it takes longer to shift to the next gear. According to their records, the last time the car touched the dealership was in 2018 for a 60,000 miles service because of the time rather than the mileage.
The car is working fine and despite some scratches and OBDII codes everything is in great shape.

Can the fluid get that dirty with so low mileage? Should I change it the way the dealer suggested or think about selling it?
Thanks in advance,
I decided to take the car to the dealership
big mistake. Take it to a transmission shop for diagnostics and evaluation.
Can the fluid get that dirty with so low mileage?
Shouldn't. Either the owner abused it, or it doesn't actually have 50k (which is suspicious for 11 years)
2 quarts came out from the pan which seemed correct
always follow the procedure for setting the fluid level. See the Car Care Nut channel for details.
Got it thank you.
I have never seen that may codes on any toyota I have owned.
Is there a chance that this car was flooded or something?
We usually have floods in the rainy season. It's definitely possible.
@jaack I suggest checking this forum on how to check and see if a car was flooded. If it was, you need to tend to the transmission asap if there is any chance of saving it, among other things.
