Scotty,
Love your channel. My Tundra has 203k and runs excellent. I perform all scheduled maintenance religiously and have had no issues outside of routine mantenance. I only use top tier fuel and AMSOIL Premium Synthetic oil change every 10k. Switched to AMSoil at 165k. Previously all oil was Toyota oils changed at 7k per Toyota. When I switched to AMSOIL the truck burnt 3 its of oil over 6k miles. AMSOIL told me the amount of detergents they use was cleaning the varnish inside the engine. They sent me free of charge a AMSOIL premium filter and 10qts of premium oil free of charge. Since the 2nd AMSOIL change it does not burn any oil. I am now at 203k and am wondering if adding a carbon cleaner is a good thing? I am debating as I do not want to create an issue.
My driving style is aggressive and I pull a 29' boat 8k lbs, a 21' boat 5k lbs, a 20' enclosed trailer 8k lbs, and UTVs 5k. I only pull in 4th gear which was recommended by my Toyota Master Mechanic. Given this trucks have never given an issue and I drive hard with aggressive acceleration and average 15k miles per year pulling trailers all year long ..... do I have any carbon buildup? If so what do I use?
I pulled an oil sample from my last oil change and have the pictures for you to view. This oil was filtered with AMSOIL Extended Mileage filters rated for 15k and the oil was changed at 14k.
If I were you, I would worry more about the oil change interval. Change it every 5k miles if you want to keep the truck running.
About the carbon build up question, what symptoms you have that makes you think you need to use cleaner?
Idle is slightly rough and oil is darker than normal. Used oil used to be bronze and clear. Now is moderate brown and slightly transparent.
