I have a 2014 Chrysler town and country with the code P0306. When I first got the van 3 years ago I made them change the transmission 2 days after I bought it! (Shifted ruff) then here recently I had an oil leak coming from the plastic housing? It ran low twice needing 2 courts! (Husband thought they didnt put oil in it at the shop) then did it again an realized its an oil leak. I finally saved money to fix it and then check engine light came on said P0306 so figured it was the spark plugs. Paid 1,000 had oil leak fixed, new value gasket, new coil for cylinder 6 and all new spark plugs. Code still came on and a rough ideal. I swapped the coil around when I got home an cleared the code and drove it and the light came back on! In going to have it put on the big computer Monday but the dealership is already telling me its the engine I need to replace it and they want to charge me 6,000. What else could it be? How can I test it myself without spending that much money? Ecm? Fuel injector? Engine repair fluid? Also I can't trade it in they are offering me less than what I owe on it! Please help.
If you want to test it yourself, do a compression test to test if the engine is bad. You can do this by pulling the spark plug and seeing what the number is. Ideally you want to see a even band throughout all 6. If P306 is cylinder 6 then just compare that with the rest and if it's something like 50 when the rest is 100 then your cylinder 6 is shot. If it's an even 100 throughout, your engine is not bad. You can also always ask for a second opinion as well
I'm saying what you're thinking. It's time to do a compression test. You've swapped coils so you know the drill.
If you don't have a compression gauge just go to a chain auto parts store and see if they have one on a "loaner" basis.
Also while you're there get a spark plug, fuel injector (or 3) and a set of the Felpro upper intake manifold gaskets for it. (since you have to remove the upper intake to pull those front cylinder bank spark plugs).
Do a compression test (on at least) all 3 front cylinders.
See what #6 looks like compared to the others.
If it's low, don't open the spark plug, injector box(s) or Felpros. You'll be returning them.
If it's OK change the spark plug, injector(s) and use the Felpros. (I know you just changed the plug but it wouldn't be smart to stick that plug that's been misfiring back in.)
That's a Pentastar V6. It's Known for cylinder head issues so that's why the dealer is already expecting it
