Hey, Scotty I have a 2014 Subaru Forester, 124k miles with a sluggish jerky transmission, the dealership said it has a stored p0971 code, they say I need a new valve body for the transmission, a $1700 dollar repair. I bought the car with 96k miles and I am not sure when if ever the cvt fluid has been changed, should I try that first or trust the Mecanic at the dealership? I know the cvt’s are junk but I’m trying to make it last as long as possible, I’m underwater in my loan.
I'd probably try changing the fluid first, might free up sticky parts in the valve body. (I'm actually surprised at the relative low cost repair being quoted by the dealership, usually they want to change out the entire CVT which costs in the area of $8000.)
Trust the mechanic at the dealership? Seriously? I think I'd rather trust Ted Bundy with my sister's graduation party.
