We own a 2014 Mercedes C250 with 60K miles and automatic transmission. The passenger side running light on the bumper stopped working and we get a message on the dash. The Mercedes dealer quoted us a very high price to fix so we took it to a second mechanic. He said the light had a short and he could make it light by pressing on it. He did not want to take on the job of tracking down the short. Any suggestions?
If the light will work by pressing on it that suggests that the light fixture or the wiring going into it is bad. It's probably an LED assembly and I have no idea how expensive or difficult a job it would be to repair on that car.
Suggestion: just remove the problematic light yourself - should be an easy job - and examine it and the part of wiring harness you will see after unplugging the light. Chances are you have some simple and easy both to detect and to fix problem like bad contact in the connector, or rotten wire in the last inches of the harness leading to the connector, or a bad light itself. MB fog / running lights as I know them seldom last very long. I used to replace mine in pairs like once every 2 years (and man it was costly), before I replaced the halogen bulbs within with LEDs. That replacement removed the root cause of my lights´problems - constant overheating (bad design), and since that time my lights have been working fine for 4 years already not needing any further replacements. But your Benz is much newer than mine - so probably your lights already have LED technology.
