Hello Scotty and everyone,
I love your channel on YouTube even though I don't know much about cars.
Now I have small amount of money to spend on a used car, and here I see many Hyundai Sonata's with low mileage (only 20k-80k usually) on sale for reasonable prices that fits well into my budget, mostly these cars are imported directly from Korea as I heard. The people here seem to like those cars and I see many of them all over the place even as many as Toyota's. My question is are they good and reliable cars that won't breakdown all the time and would cost a fortune to fix?
Now, as you always say on your videos Toyota's are always the better option but they're obviously more expensive unless I look for a 2006 Toyota or something and what I have in mind is that Im probably gonna keep the car as long as I could so Im looking for something newer model like 2010 or above. I live in the middle east where the temperatures are hot almost all around the year and most people here seem to prefer the Japanese cars because they're more reliable than European cars especially in this kind of climate. Also it seems Dodge Chargers are popular here too, so what do you guys think about them? like 2011-2013 Dodge Charger. Which car should I look for?
Thanks! {black}:inlove:
What is your budget & what are your other options, in your area?
My budget is around $6500-$7000 only. My options 2011 or 2012 Dodge Charger or 2015-2016 Hyundai Sonata, rarely I'd find 2009-2011 Honda Accord Coupe.
In the U.S. Hyundais have had a lot of problems, particularly with engines self-destructing. However that seems to mainly be an issue with those built in the U.S. A Korean built Sonata will probably be better but it is still not likely to hold up as well as even an older Toyota. There's a reason why a used Toyota retains more of its value than a used Hyundai.
Well, Toyotas retains more of its value than any other car brand here because everyone like Toyotas and they sell like hotcakes around here.
It's a similar situation here. People want Toyotas because except for a few models with problems they hold up well over time - so they cost more.
Whats your opinion on 2011-2013 Dodge Chargers?
Don't know anyone who has one of those. I do know Scotty says those and other Fiat-Chrysler products are not very reliable, and that the V8 engines are prone to camshaft and lifter problems due to inadequate lubrication.
They are not reliable. Pass.
Hyundai/Kia do not make reliable cars. I would not recommend them.
Based on your choices, I would not buy any of them. The chargers are endless money pits, the sonatas are junk and they fall apart before 100k miles, the accord is good, but do watch out for oil consumption and premature wear on the brakes since those were the low points of the 09-11 alongside 08, 12. You could look at the 2007 Accord since those are pre-good, my uncle has one and it's been great for the past 10 years. You could also look into older Camry's since those are good (but avoid 2007-2009 and 2012-2014, 2018).
