After pumping gas the car begins to stall while in a complete stop or low speeds. It shuts off without any warning and struggles to turn back on. Happens a couple times before the car starts driving normally. Why does it do that? It’s been going on for about three years and it only happens when I pump gas. I don’t fill the tank all the way and I never let it go lower than half a tank before I fill it. Dealership doesn’t know what is wrong with it. Any idea?
Sounds like your evap purge valve needs replacing.
Check your EVAP system. Are there any codes? Is the fuel pump still healthy? (It should be on a 5 yr old car)
Typical Chrysler fuel issues at 5 years old.
No codes show up nor check engine light. It also happened while the car was fairly new. Got it when it had 400 miles.
What. You should’ve pestered the dealer till they fixed the problem. Do you still have any warranty on the car? If you have documented evidence of complaining to the dealer regarding this issue, I’d try escalating the matter. Why should you have to pay out of your pocket for a manufacturing defect from when the car was brand new?
I’ve called and told them what was happening and of course they said I would have to leave the car there until they figured out the problem. But it only happens when I pump gas. I no longer have warranty since it’s past the 5 year mark. I’ve mentioned to them the evap valve cause I’ve read things online but they said that I’d have to leave the car until they figure it out. And I risk the manufacturer not paying for it cause it wasn’t a recall.
What a mess. Vote with your wallet, the next time you’re in the market for a car.
