2015 Chrysler 200C 3.6L AWD Issue

I have a 2015 Chrysler 200C 3.6L AWD. I have been having nonstop issues with the car since hitting 80,000 miles; I have had all the known issues with the 200 besides the electrical one, until what seems to be now.

I’ll be casually driving down the road, and suddenly, the AWD and performance shifting are unavailable. Immediately after it enters limp mode. (Won’t upshift) I can trick it into working fine again by disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds and then reconnecting… After watching your latest video, I realized that being able to slide off the negative terminal on the battery by hand wasn’t a convenience thing and could be my current issue. lol

I’ve since tightened the connection with no issues, but I have only driven local 10-minute trips since then. (Usually took over an hour drive to happen before)

Would you recommend clearing the codes and then waiting for it to maybe start messing up again, or could it have a bigger issue that I might not be aware of? I’ve ordered a VeePeak BLE Plus OBDII so I could scan and clear codes, just waiting for it to come.

It's quite possible the loose battery terminal was the cause. So short-term cleaning codes and seeing if the problem returns is probably your best bet. Longer term you should get rid of that thing, they're just not very good cars.

@chucktobias Status update after scanning and clearing I am getting a U1424 code. It keeps coming back. Still haven’t got the limp mode activated again but after some research I found the people that had this same error code detail the same issues.

However I am unsure of what part could actually be faulty. Points to TCM but someone said there issue was bank 1 camshaft… Someone else said this was a recall but I don’t see any information online about the specifics of this being a possible recall.

@chucktobias additionally I recently had my whole oil filter housing replaced. Is it possible they didn’t connect something properly?

It's always possible wiring was disturbed when work was done. Is there any wiring in the area of the oil filter housing? Bear in mind that those cars are notorious for electrical and transmission problems. (If you've searched for U1424 you likely found it it's overwhelmingly Chrysler products affected and it could be anything from bad wiring or connector to a bad TIPM to a bad computer module.)

You can find recall and TSB information here:

@chucktobias yeah there is a bit of wiring and two-three sensors that are attached to the housing. I’m in Korea so it’s hard to communicate with the mechanics here and I don’t know their policy for getting them to check if they messed up anything. To a degree I feel like they fix one thing then cause another issue.

Example my radiator blew up so they fixed it. In turn they had to take off my bumper and in turn they removed my radar sensors. Now the radars need recalibrated so they constantly say unavailable. (They can’t do it here) Oddly enough there isn’t a fault code in the system for that that my reader can see… I wonder if this code could just be that tho… I guess I won’t know unless the Limp mode happens again.

There may be manufacturer-specific codes that a generic code reader won't detect. That would require a professional-grade, dealer-level scan tool.

@chucktobias well I figured it out finally. My thermostat was stuck and after overheating I discovered it wasn’t opening up to the radiator properly. lol long story short replaced it and now no codes in system and no issues in general. Till next time.
