Hi Scotty I have a question about my 2015 Dodge Charger r/t 5.7 l hemi I got a one owner local traded Dodge Charger 6 months ago it had 96,500 miles ( now 105,000 ) oil was changed every 5,000 miles great maintenance records original owner took super good care of it, how ever I’m a dodge guy I will only drive a dodge and I’ve owned 5 Charger and challengers just none with this many miles, when I start it on occasion it takes longer then usual to turn over but it turns over fine and on occasion when it turns over it’ll rev up to 1500-2000 rpm for a few seconds then drop back down to normal idle what do you think could be the issue vacuum leak? Bad spark plugs? Could a major part be going bad? I would appreciate your help I don’t trust the dealer!
The roller lifter are going bad and eating your cam. Need to pull the heads and replace them all. $$$$$$$$$
It only does it sometimes and it’s when the car sits more then a day like 2-3 then I start it and it drives perfectly fine no check engine lights or anything could it still be my lifters?
Yes. These engines are famous for bad lifters.
I knew they did but 105,000….. I expected 150,000 I had a 5.7 challenger for 8 months put 15,000 miles on it ran it SUPER hard and the engine still wasn’t broken in I traded that for a 2015 srt 392 and ran that even harder I raced it at the track it had 44,000 miles when it unfortunately saved my life in accident that should have killed me and it wasn’t wasn’t even broken in I’ll just take it to the dealer it’s got a warranty that covers it to 180,000 miles so I’ll pay nothing I just have never had any hemi I’ve ever had idle like that after sitting for 2-3 days I left my 392 sitting for 3 weeks once and it started just fine no delay
Then you are the exception and not the rule.
If your A/C or other components are on, especially on higher settings when you start it (like they usually are in Summer) the load can cause that too. Just something to consider.
Yes, I leave my ac on when I get out so if I want to I can remote start it at work while I finish up and get inside a cold car rather then a car that’s 100-110 inside I had a 392 challenger and I have never seen this out of any charger or challenger I’ve owned
If the vehicle runs and drives fine, check the spark plugs first.
