Hi scotty, my father has a 2015 infiniti qx50 v6 3.7l with about 65k miles on it. Considering it has a nissan cvt in it how long do you think it has left before he starts having problems. btw our family has always stuck with hondas and toyotas but he ended up getting this
Your dad's 2015 qx50 has a regular 7 speed automatic transmission, not a CVT. Those 7 speeds are reliable, I would not worry about it one bit as long as its been maintained.
The V6 in that is one of the best V6 engines ever produced, its bullet proof
Scotty's not fond of Infiniti quality over the long haul. And he's clearly not fond of JATCO transmissions.
There are some variables that your father controls over the potential lifespan of the Infiniti, in general, and with the transmission, more specifically. One lifespan variable is timely CVT fluid changes. If he hasn't done that, yet, it's time.
And, yes, while CVT fluid is truly expensive, this twist on Scotty's aphorism is also true: "CVT fluid is relatively cheap. Transmissions are expensive."
Scotty's video is below, followed by The Car Wizard's explanation of why he purchased a used Infiniti.
