My car, a 2015 Ford Police Interceptor Utility with 130,000 miles is consuming coolant! It's leaking from beneath the vehicle on the passenger side. I'm not sure what's causing it. I don't have any hose leaks or anything if that nature. The reservoir slowly goes down as I drive the car. The head gasket isn't blown or anything. Any suggestions on what could be the culprit? It also only seems to leak at idle or when the engine is turned off. I don't see any trail of coolant whilst driving.
The hoses for the heater are typically on that side of the car, you sure its not leaking there? How do you know its not the headgasket? It could be an external headgasket failure, in which case you'd see coolant stains on the block dripping from the head.
The water pump is known to go on the vehicles at 100k miles. But I don't see a leak, usually that's the first sign of a water pump going bad. (the gasket around it)
Doesnt this thing have the water pump inside the engine behind the timing cover? In that case you wouldnt really be able to see if the water pumps gasket is bad. Also a headgasket can blow while the water pump is still okay. Typically a bad water pump will lead to overheating and blown headgaskets, but not the only thing that can cause a blown headgasket. Take yasers advice and have it pressure tested.
Any suggestions on what could be the culprit?
Do the pressure test on the cooling system to figure out.
