Ok,
I’m in minnesota, and I do mostly city driving, just bought a 2015 Subaru Outback, 4cyl, 2.5i premium, with 70,000 miles.
what maintenance should I do to make this car drive forever ?
(my old 2013 burned oil, but I don’t think this model year does that).
The transmission (CVT) is the weakest part of that vehicle Ignore the "sealed transmission/lifetime fluid" mantra of the dealers and change the fluid at least at 30K mile intervals.
Subaru did have an oil burning problem due to defective piston rings from a supplier but I believe that was prior to the 2015 models.
Follow the maintenance schedule from the manual. Assume nothing has been done so you may have to do some items from miles past. Don't forget to change the transmission fluid.
Frequent oil changes, either 5k or 1 year. Use the right oil.
Thanks guys !!
any tips on recommended changes on differential fluid, coolant, and brake fluid ?
all the “official” recommendations just say to “check” it.
Familiarize yourself with ALL fluids and lubricants used in your car. This would include but is not limited to engine oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, power steering fluid, differential oil, grease fittings, etc. If it were me, I would change out everything now so I have a set starting point and take care of these items by taking the manufacturers recommendations and cutting them in half. Also, don't forget about other items like air and cabin filters, PCV valve, spark plugs, belts and hoses, water pump, etc.
