Sir,

im a huge fan and I’m needing your advise, I’m trying to purchase a used 2015 Toyota Prius with 60,000 miles in a Toyota dealership for $19,000, I called Toyota directly with vin number of vehicle and they said the warranty of the vehicle for battery, generator for 150,000 miles has expired but I can purchase the Toyota extended platinum warranty which covers the battery, generator for I think 60,000 miles for $3500, if I purchase vehicle it might cost me $24,000. Should I purchase vehicle, please let me know

Save your money and buy a new one.

They are ripping you off at those prices.

NO WAY!

That price is crazy for a nearly 9 year old prius.

Don't get me wrong, I had a 2013 and loved it, but it was only 3 years old when I bought it.

For that price you could get a new, or nearly new corolla that would likely last longer and give you less trouble.

Thank you, what would be reasonable then? How many years used?

What would be a good price on 2015 Toyota Prius?

I would be hesitant to pay half of what they are asking. There are just so many more things that can go wrong with a prius with age, like the battery, generator, inverter etc.
Don't get me wrong, a prius is a good vehicle, if you want something to do uber or deliveries, or just a crazy amount of miles for whatever reason, a prius is a great option. However, they are best in the city, but a corolla can get great gas mileage, very close to the same as the prius on the highway.

I suggest not looking at dealerships, they are always overpriced, and warranties don't mean much to me, they always find a way out of covering big expenses.

I won’t speak to valuations.  But buying any used hybrid is fraught with peril unless it has had the hybrid battery replaced with an OEM unit.  I’ve heard too many stories of dealers saying the battery is covered by some kind of warranty, only to either try to weasel out of it later or do a substandard fix.

Assume you will have to replace the hybrid battery at full cost and include that in your calculus.

I bought a 2004 Prius in 2018. Never had to replace the hybrid battery, but it is definitely showing its age in reduced mpg and power

you could potentially get many years out of that car, but Id personally skip the extended warranty for sure. Yes a new car would be a better buy, but you're looking at close to $30k when all is said and done. I might look for something slightly newer, like a 2017-2019

My father has a 2015 Prius with 116K with ZERO issues. So on that particular unit with half the mileage that my father's has, I would pay $15K for it. And mind you, a new 2023 Prius typically goes for $34K.

it might cost me $24,000

I'd rather have that $24000 in a brand new Corolla Hybrid, not a 2015 Prius!
