I am looking at getting a 2016 BMW 228i coupe with a manual transmission that has 66k miles off of carmax. I plan on getting the maxcare plan that carmax offers as I have heard great things about that plan. What I want to know is if I take care of the car with service and maintenance like oil changes every 5k miles, brakes, and coolant change and not drive it hard as I want to could the thing last me for some time and be somewhat reliable? I understand that many buy a BMW and race it or drive it hard while having it but I was never that interested in speed I am just more interested in the manual transmission and the BMW drive experience. I understand that most car brands don't fall apart until they pass 100k or when they are over 10 years old but if taken care of can it last me for another 5 maybe 10 years? I also understand that highway miles are less strain than city miles and it would be more highway miles than city as driving a manual in the city is no fun especially a big city like Chicago. Curious to hear everyone's opinion on this.

It will be fine if it was well cared for and you maintain it as planned. I suggest you ask around locally for a good independent BMW mechanic who can look after it as long as you own it.  They also might do a pre-purchase inspection.

If the BMW is in good shape and you drive conservatively like you describe, and take care of it, I think your chances of getting to 100,000 miles are pretty good. Good luck
