2016 Canyon leaky transmission

Scotty,  I have a 2016 GMC Canyon 2.5L 4 cyl, 6 speed auto 4x4. 88,000 kms. Transmission is leaking from seam between bellhousing and transmission body on the upper drivers side of the unit and making it to the ground. Worse when it sits and gets really cold. Doesn't leak when driving. 4 months out of warranty. Love the truck, what should I do? Worth fixing? Are stop leak additives going to make things worse down the road? Drives fine, great truck otherwise... took the cap off at the bottom of the bellhousing and its dry in there.  Thanks, Pat

Please don’t double post, thanks.

that's a strange place for a leak. Are you sure it isn't dripping from the cooler lines?

Do you have a photo?

I agree with MMJoe.  If it's leaking from the top of the bell housing/engine seam, it is not a transmission or rear main seal leak.  I would start looking at a valve cover gasket.

make sure it's not the vent or cooler lines leaking.

If it really is coming from inside the transmission then there isn't much you can do. Take it to a tranny shop and get price for rebuild.

Its not the valve covers. It's red atf. Coming from the between the bell and transmission. Not the motor side of the bell. Very frustrating.
